Hello Lacrosse Players, Coaches, Administrators, Parents, and Fans!

My name is Alain Rodrigue, pronounced “Alan Rodreeg.”  Yes, I was born in Quebec, Canada and my parents wanted to mess with me!  I grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire playing basketball, football, a lot of pond hockey and back yard lacrosse.  After high school, I decided to travel a bit.  My first and last stop was visiting my sister in Minnesota, where I decided to enroll at St. Cloud State University.  I played club lacrosse for the Huskies, and eventually became Club President and Captain.  With the help of my close friends, I started the Cloud Classic which ran for 12 years.  After graduation, I became the Huskies first dedicated lacrosse coach.

In 1998, I enrolled at Boise State University to get my master’s degree in Exercise Science and Sports Studies.   At Boise State, I played and coached lacrosse for three years before taking a Fitness Director position at a community center in Syracuse, NY.  I got involved in coaching lacrosse again at Cazenovia College, a small private D3 school.  It was very cool to be coaching in “lacrosse country.”  In Syracuse, I absorbed as much lacrosse knowledge as I could while attending many clinics for players, coaches and administrators.  The best part was perhaps watching the Orangemen in the Carrier Dome!

After a little persuading, I returned to Boise to manage their youth lacrosse program.  Shortly after my arrival, I became the Boise State University’s Men’s and Women’s Head Coach and the Idaho Lacrosse Association President.  I also ran several boys and girls lacrosse camps, tournaments and conducted coaching and officiating clinics.

While running the youth league, many parents approached me for advice on equipment.  I also noticed that I had young lacrosse players playing with the wrong sticks, improper protective gear, “illegal” equipment, etc.  You name it, I probably witnessed it!  It was evident that a lacrosse shop with a knowledgeable staff was needed.  With the help of a couple of friends, we opened a lacrosse shop that has been growing since 2003.

A few years later, I began coaching high school lacrosse.  In nine seasons, I coached three programs. These programs had sub .500 records upon my arrival and I turned them all into State Championship contenders making semi-final appearances with all three eventually winning the State Championship.  During my nine year tenure as a high school coach, I was a finalist for coach of the year three times, receiving the award in 2012.  I was also fortunate enough to join the US Lacrosse Century Club - capturing 100 career wins, and coached five All-American student athletes.

After our son was born, my wife and I decided to move back to Minnesota and chose Woodbury to raise our family and grow some roots.  I returned to the Minnesota lacrosse community as an official and a youth coach with the Woodbury United Lacrosse Association.  I felt that a true lacrosse store was missing in the east metro and that having a store nearby would increase awareness and assist the growth of lacrosse in the surrounding communities.  Drawing from my previous experiences, I decided to do just that.

In 2014, I opened East Side Lacrosse (ES Lacrosse, for short) to cater to the east metro lacrosse community.  My goal is to grow a strong lacrosse community!  Now you know me, please come on in so that I can meet you!

Towards better lacrosse,
